Navigating Success: The Growth and Innovation of Balance Catamarans

At Balance Catamarans, growth and innovation have always been at the heart of what we do. As we move into 2025, our journey from a modest operation in St. Francis, South Africa, to a global leader in performance cruising catamarans is both humbling and exhilarating.

From Humble Beginnings to Global Expansion

I’m Phil Berman, and I’m honored to share our story. In 2012, we began with just 20 employees in St. Francis, building one or two boats a year. Today, we’re on track to launch 27 boats in 2025, with nearly 1,000 employees across two state-of-the-art factories in St. Francis and Cape Town. It’s been a journey of organic growth, fueled by passion, innovation, and an unwavering commitment to quality.

Setting Sail into New Horizons

This year marks a major milestone: I’m currently aboard the first Balance 580, a vessel years in the making. As we conduct sea trials, we’ll soon be releasing videos and photos to showcase its impressive capabilities.

We’ve also entered production on the new Balance 502, the next evolution of our popular 482 model, with the 464 to follow. And of course, there’s the launch of our flagship, the Balance 750—a luxurious and powerful catamaran that represents the pinnacle of our design and engineering excellence.

Innovation at the Core

Innovation continues to shape our future. This year, we partnered with Integral to integrate the E-Drive hybrid system, pushing the boundaries of eco-conscious performance. We’re also utilizing advanced carbon core construction across models like the 502, 464, and upcoming 540—offering greater strength, lighter weight, and enhanced interior space without sacrificing speed or comfort.

Empowering Through Education

We’ve noticed a growing number of owners who are new to sailing. To support them, we’ve created a suite of in-depth educational videos covering every aspect of catamaran ownership—from sailing techniques to maintenance best practices. These resources are available through our exclusive Owner’s Portal App, as well as a new cellular app, helping owners feel confident and prepared before they ever set foot on board.

A Global Support Network

As our fleet grows worldwide, so does our commitment to customer support. Our new service center in Grenada ensures quick turnaround for boats arriving from transatlantic journeys. We’re also planning a similar facility in Chesapeake Bay and building a global warranty network to provide fast, reliable service wherever our customers sail.
