CrossReach Heart for Art runs creative groups for people living with dementia, their family, friends and carers.
Those who attend the group are supported by professional artists and generous volunteers to create their own self-directed body of creative work. This allows the individual to take control over their self-expression, their identity, and to feel empowered in the face of a dementia diagnosis.
There is a huge social aspect to Heart for Art often ringing people out of complete isolation, or allowing them to spend rare quality time with their families and friends.
Heart for Art runs 11 groups across Scotland and in 2019 we were delighted to open a group at St Andrew’s Church, Carluke. The work being exhibited has been produced by local people with dementia and is truly inspirational.
Heart for Art artists are regularly exhibited in local and national settings across Scotland. This is an opportunity to reach out to others, and to openly tackle the stigma attached to dementia by displaying the achievements of each individual.
